It had been a while since I had sampled the joys of the audiobook, but a recent road trip to Vermont gave our family the opportunity to immerse ourselves in a of couple great stories.
First off, we listened to The Lightning Thief: Percy Jackson & the Olympians #1 by Rick Riordan.
Three quarters of our family [...]

…On an (even) lighter note, all this June rain has made us Bookworkers a little punchy. Even the merchandise is restless!
NEWSFLASH: In a mildly surprising turn of events, one of our beloved Mr. Bill figurines (from our beloved Accoutrements) came to life today. Luckily I was there to capture the moment with my trusty iPhone.
Mr. [...]

We’re going to launch our first ever t-shirt, and you, dear reader, can help.
It’s been a beautiful day on Nantucket, with yard work, reading on the deck, and our family’s first trip down to the Creeks. It was also the first day I got out one of my favorite t-shirts, which happens to be from one of [...]

Hello via iphone from a bus in NYC. I’m in town for BookExpo, the big annual trade show for the industry, which never fails to re-energize. This year is certainly no exception, particularly because–as someone smart said during a panel–there’s something of a wild west atmosphere in this business these days, what with digital delivery, [...]

We just have to share the coolest web book ad we’ve come across. With the perfect cover for somebody’s Easter basket and the perfect topic for spring (birds!), this book is sure to be a winner.
Click here for a quick cool dittybop of an ad for Olivia Gentile’s “Life List”

There was a great article in the Boston Globe on Thursday titled “Unchained Success”, featuring independent booksellers in the Boston area defying the odds and beating their larger competitors. We have a copy taped to the wall at the store for inspiration, and I must say us Bookworkers have been buoyed by the encouraging message, [...]

I sort of assume everyone knows about Yelp.com, the online review site, but lately when I’ve been telling the following story, I’ve found that that’s not always the case–just as it’s not always the case that everyone has heard of a Kindle. In both cases I guess I’m glad that so many of my friends and family members are [...]

What happens when 6-8 11 year old girls get together for an hour or so of little-felt-animal crafting? Not all that much in the great scheme of things, but we sure have fun. Last week we made little pandas with flat arms – today was stuffed monkey day.
A little bit of Japanese craft culture for [...]

Had to share a little humor found on HarperStudio’s blog, “The 26th Story.” My favorite line, of course, is in the last frame: “Book works with the shelves you have at home.”
After all the sturm und drang surrounding ebooks in the publishing and bookselling world this winter, it has been a great relief to find that–at [...]

People ask me what trade shows are like, so here’s a short video to give you the feel. Toy Fair is held at the Jacob Javits Center in New York each year and it’s always entertaining. The toys ordered there have started to arrive already, so let the games begin!
