Hello via iphone from a bus in NYC. I’m in town for BookExpo, the big annual trade show for the industry, which never fails to re-energize. This year is certainly no exception, particularly because–as someone smart said during a panel–there’s something of a wild west atmosphere in this business these days, what with digital delivery, print on demand, and online content changing all the traditional rules. Exciting times and a challenge to the status quo!
On a more local note, Elin Hilderbrand’s publisher–Little, Brown–flew her in this year so we’ve had a fun time talking up the island at various functions and fĂȘtes. (I read Elin’s new book “Castaways”, coming out July 7th, and it’s great–her best yet.) The highlight last night was a Hachette party, where we got to meet David Sedaris, Malcolm Gladwell, and Nicholas Sparks.
The challenge for me is always: how to bring the excitement back to share with the whole staff as well as our customers and friends. But look! Turns out there’s an iPhone app for that.
Cheers, Wendy
