The international aspect of the Cuirt International Festival of Literature in Galway is a less pronounced this year than in the past. Poet Ingrid De Kok is here from South Africa; her most recent book is Seasonal Fires: New and Selected Poems, available in the U.S. I heard good comments about her reading. Poets Thomas Lynch, Jane Hirshfield, and Philip Schultz are the representatives from the United States. Philip Schultz’s reading was outstanding and included poems from Failure, which won the 2008 Pulitzer Prize, and “68 Charles Street,” his lively poetric chronicle of his early tears in Greenwich Village.
